Release: 16/12/2021, 16:00 (local time)

A barometric low forming Saturday morning centered in the Rhodes area is moving southeast towards the Cyprus area and deepening as a result of the dynamic instability in the middle atmosphere. Because of this, the expected weather during the period from midnight Saturday through Monday afternoon will be significant, with high rainfall, prolonged yet intense thunderstorms, strong winds and significant wave height, the Department of Meteorology, in consultation with its partners (Meteorological Services of Greece and Israel) in the naming programme for major depressions of the European Meteorological Services EUMETNET, has decided to name it "Carmel".

This name is on the list of recession names pre-decided by the partners[url=file://C:/Users/User/Desktop/maria/OUT/12%20-%20Dec%2016.12.2021/20211216_%CE%94%CE%B5%CE%BB%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BF%20%CF%84%CF%85%CC%81%CF%80%CE%BF%CF%85_%CF%87%CE%B1%CE%BC%CE%B7%CE%BB%CE%BF%CC%81%20%CE%B2%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%BF%CE%BC%CE%B5%CF%84%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%BF%CC%81%20%CE%9A%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%BC%CE%B5%CE%BB.docx#_ftn1][1], is the third name on the list (the previous two were already given to corresponding depressions) and is a name given by the Israel Meteorological Agency.
