The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, in response to reports regarding the maintenance of roads in Akamas, reports that the necessary maintenance of part of the road network and fire lanes is being carried out in the area as part of the preparation for the fire season, as well as the management and supervision of the forest. The work is being carried out on selected sections of the road network where the earthen road surface has been severely damaged by erosion. These works are not part of the wider planning for the sustainable development of the Akamas National Forest Park.

The works include only basic maintenance of the road surface and under no circumstances will the roads be widened. The works are completely necessary and are intended to ensure the safe and fast movement of fire engines, as well as the movement of personnel and visitors to the area. The basic maintenance of the forest road network greatly enhances the protection of ecosystems, habitats, habitats and other important elements of the flora and fauna of Akamas, which are at risk of being destroyed by fires during the summer period.

The Department assures citizens, as well as organized groups who may reasonably be concerned, that it is listening to their concerns and that all measures are being taken to protect the environment and the natural beauty of the area during the execution of the works.
