Adult Psychoeducational Sculpture Program- "Bodies of Resilience"

An approach to the body that promotes acceptance, inclusion and love for all body types challenges societal expectations and body image norms. During the Psychoeducational Sculpture Program, selected works from the State Gallery's permanent exhibition serve as drivers for discussions about body diversity and gender theory. Guiding participants in analyzing and interpreting specific works encourages them to think about how the works challenge or reinforce social expectations. These discussions provide a rich context for exploring the complexities of body image and gender, connecting artistic expressions to lived experiences.

The workshop aims to create a safe and supportive space where participants can explore and express their relationship to bodies and their identities through artistic creation. It also encourages participants to use materials as a means of self-analysis, challenging social expectations and norms. Through the process of sculpting bodies, participants can promote self-acceptance, self-expression and a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between gender, identity and physical form. The goals of the workshop include promoting positive body image, individuality and encouraging a sense of active participation in the body and gender narrative.

The programme is also designed for specific groups of the public (disabled, neurodevelopmental disorders) and is implemented through the collaboration of Elpida Frageskidou, Founder of Kuns Studio Sculpture Workshop (MA Fine Arts & Arts Education), and the art psychotherapist Eleni Petridou Bouriti (MSc Art Psychotherapy | MA Fine Arts & Arts Education), in an effort to attract the public to cultural spaces and raise awareness on issues of development, empathy and well-being.

Experiential emotional intelligence workshops for children aged 7-10- "Everything I felt- everything I expressed"

In the experiential workshops, children will explore the world of emotions through various modes of expression such as role play, drawing, symbolic play and improvisation. Through group activities, they will identify and express various emotions, linking them to their everyday life. Finally, they will learn to externalize what they feel and especially to express gratitude for what they have.

The workshops were designed on the basis of the work of Andis Ioannidis "Second letter to mother [/I] (1992)" and through a series of exercises and activities they aim to help children to develop "emotional empathy", i.e. to understand the feelings of others, to develop their self-esteem, to communicate effectively with others, to cooperate harmoniously within the group and to develop their cognitive abilities (e.g.e.g. thinking, concentration, evaluation and problem solving, etc.).

Series of printmaking workshops for young people and adults- "Woodcuts: Techniques and Inspirations"

Taking as a starting point the work of Telemachus Kanthos and his engravings presented in the permanent exhibition of the State Gallery - Majestic, individuals participating in the workshop series will learn about the history of the art of printmaking, its methodology and the way it evolves through time.

Engraving is the engraving of a design on a surface that is subsequently inked and printed on paper. The basic methods include wood engraving, engraving and lithography and are divided into two categories such as intaglio and intaglio. Through printmaking, however, skills about the material media are developed, prompting the artist to explore various methods and discover his/her needs and desires in the field of visual art. This process requires research, experimentation, technical and aesthetic understanding that help develop a new identity and compose a new vocabulary of printmaking expression.

Individuals participating in the self-guided workshops will engage in wood engraving and black and white multi-copy printing. This method requires minimal tools and is simple to implement, helping individuals to eliminate the timidity they often experience in drawing.

No prior knowledge is required to participate in the workshop.

It is suggested that individuals participating bring along A4 drawings that they wish to work with.

Educational programme for children aged 7-10- "Museum storytelling with a fairy tale, imagination and lots of colours"

The programme is based on the fairy tale "But where did everyone go?" by Sophia Dardzalis and aims to promote children's contact and acquaintance with Cypriot art and culture. The children, through the hero of the fairy tale and the exploration of selected works from the permanent exhibition of the State Gallery, will create their own stories, enhancing their imagination and creativity.

The programme consists of three parts and will take place on all floors of the Gallery. Children will engage in a game of exploration in the Gallery's spaces using supporting elements provided to them, with the aim of identifying selected works by three Cypriot artists and learning more about their work and activities. At the end of the programme, the children will have the opportunity to record their own stories based on the information they have collected and present their own creations.

The programme was designed based on Niki Nikonanou's museum pedagogy, Maria Birbili's pedagogy of dialogue and Niki Kantzou's popular culture chest. The main pedagogical axes of the programme are the exploration of the work of art, the development of children's imagination, creative thinking and writing and the essential contact of children with Cypriot art and culture.
