The Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces the 1st call for the financial support scheme for the construction of fencing for the protection of crops from wildflowers and the payment of compensation in cases of damage caused by wildflowers to agricultural crops.
The aim of the scheme is to take measures to protect crops from the feeding habits of the wildebeest and to compensate farmers for loss of income in the event of damage to agricultural production, given that this is a protected species.
Interested parties wishing to apply for the fencing of a plot of land in order to protect their crops from the wildebeest are invited to apply to the local District Agricultural Offices where their farm is located. The application period starts from 5 February 2024 until 8 March 2024.
Applications for the Compensation Scheme for damage caused to agricultural crops by wildflowers are accepted throughout the year. A prerequisite of the Plan is that prior measures have been taken to protect the land from wildflowers.
