The agreement between the Republic of Cyprus and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the financial support of the Missing Persons' Committee (MMP) was signed today at the Presidential Palace.

The agreement was signed, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, by the Deputy Minister to the President, Mrs Irene Piki, and on behalf of the UNDP, Mr Alexandre Pietro.

During the signing ceremony, Mrs Piki thanked the UNDP for the very important work it carries out in Cyprus, including the support it provides to the work of the ICRC. She added that, as a sign of the support of the Republic of Cyprus, the Government has decided to increase its annual financial contribution to the CMP from €175,000 to €300,000 in order to intensify the excavation work.

It is noted that the annual budget of the CMP amounts to €3.2 million, 80% of which comes from the EU. The EU has so far provided more than €30 million for this purpose. The Republic of Cyprus has contributed a total of €4 million. Leonidas Pantelidis.
