It is a great pleasure and honour for me to be in Paphos today for the inauguration of the new facilities of the International School of Paphos.
Allow me, before any other mention, to warmly congratulate the founder of the school, Theodoros Aristodimou, who, without any exaggeration, apart from being a great benefactor of the city and province of Paphos, is one of the most important businessmen of our country, of whom we are particularly proud. My presence tonight at this event is, among other things, a sign of recognition and appreciation by the state of all that you have done and continue to do for our country. Thank you very much.
Allow me also to congratulate the Board of Directors, the Management, the teaching and other staff of the School, for their long-standing dedication to education, carrying out with great zeal a high pedagogical work.
Your work and dedication is the main contributor to the successful and renowned course of the school which, among many positive effects, contributes decisively, because this is the key, to the promotion of quality education and education in our country.
This, moreover, was the guiding principle behind the establishment of the school and continues to be the beacon for the accomplishment of its mission, which sets as its primary objective to provide high quality education.
I would like to note that I am impressed by everything I have seen, the excellent training of the staff, the innovative facilities - I do not know of any other public or private school in Cyprus that has such facilities - and the innovative programmes offered by the school, which are fully in line with the needs of modern education. In this context, it is no coincidence that its graduates and alumni acquire strong guarantees and advantages, both for the continuation of their studies and their subsequent professional career.
Confirmation of what I have mentioned above is the reputation of the school, but also the successes achieved by its students in Cyprus and abroad.
Of particular importance for the continuation of this evolutionary course are the buildings we are inaugurating today. New, modern facilities which create an environment conducive to learning, innovation and the personal development of students. New buildings that will undoubtedly give further significant impetus to the development of the school itself, but also to the upgrading of education in our country.
What I would particularly like to note, on the occasion of tonight's event, is that this commitment of the school from the very beginning to continuous development and growth is an example for the educational and student community in our country in general. It is a very purposeful approach that guides teachers, pupils and students to continue to set high goals, but also to remain committed to the pursuit of learning. A struggle that benefits both them and our society.
Undoubtedly, education is the cornerstone on which the future of any country, the road to prosperity, is built and is the key to the full development of its human potential.
Through education we are creating tomorrow's active global citizens, who will lead the way in the progress and prosperity of our country, at European and international level, but also of society in general. As the Government, and I personally, realizing the importance of the effective and quality operation of all our educational institutions, we support and will continue to support such initiatives that contribute to the efforts to upgrade education and education in our country.
Moreover, as a state, we have two basic obligations towards Cypriot citizens and those who reside in our country. They are Education and Health. A state has basic obligations in these two areas and it is for this reason that we attach the utmost importance to Education, which is our priority as a factor that determines both the education and character of our young people, but also as a factor that is crucial in order to strengthen and improve our society and which affects all policy areas horizontally.
It is my strong belief that in order to be able to meet the current and future challenges, we need to build a modern and effective education system. What this school offers. That is why we as a State have already moved to implement innovative solutions and reforms with the sole aim of effectively and qualitatively upgrading the education provided.
Our basic approach is not to continually reinforce the curriculum to our students. Our aim is to reduce the curriculum, target it and focus on other areas. To help our children develop their skills, those unique qualities that every child, every student has.
At the same time, we are promoting plans so that through our education system the values, knowledge and skills that we want to distinguish democratic, critical thinking and active citizens are established.

Plans and actions that promote both creativity and experiential learning, that nurture and strengthen the character, special talents, talents and personality of children in a holistic way.
Dear parents, I have children myself and I am well aware of your concerns. Continue to support and encourage your children in their educational pursuits, in their concerns, in their struggle to learn, in their reflections. Your participation in their academic journey, combined with their attendance at this prestigious school, is an important guarantee of their success.
Dear students, recognize, appreciate and take advantage of the challenges that lie ahead of you. You have a unique environment to develop your aptitudes and skills. Education is the key that unlocks countless doors of opportunity. Make the most of every opportunity, appreciate any difficulties and challenges that come your way as experiences to make you better and never underestimate the power of your dreams. Remember that you are the architects of your future. With determination and perseverance as your allies, remember that nothing can put any limitation on your goals.
In conclusion, I would like to congratulate once again my dear friend Theodore Aristodimou, thanking him on behalf of the State for all that he has offered over the years.
