I am very pleased to announce that we are now very close to the start of the production of the upgraded bus stops and shelters and their installation nationwide, through an ambitious and necessary project of paramount importance for the improvement of public transport in our country, the promotion of which is a priority for my Ministry.

Through this project we aim at a coordinated upgrade of public transport infrastructure, creating a comfortable, safe and accessible environment for passengers waiting for the bus. In addition to their functional upgrading, a high aesthetics is achieved.

The design of the new shelters has been prepared by Demades Design Ltd and takes into account both the local conditions and the space available for their placement.

The project has been implemented by the consortium A.S. Air Control LTD & AMCO A.B.E.E. J.V., under a 15-year contract worth a total of €74 million, which includes 5 years of basic implementation and 10 years of maintenance.

Currently, the standard samples of the stands and canopies are being finalized and preparations are being completed for the start of mass production, which is scheduled to begin in July 2024. Repair work on existing shelters has already started, will be intensified and will continue in parallel with the installation of the new stands/shelters. Within 2024, approximately 300 new stops and canopies will be installed and another 100 canopies will be repaired. Priority will be given to bus stops on the main axes, where there is high usage.

It should be noted that the Ministry is maintaining the subsidy scheme for bus shelters to local authorities to cover needs until they are included for upgrading as part of the pan-Canadian project.

In conclusion, I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the implementation of this project and especially my colleagues in the Public Works Department for the effort they have made, so that the implementation of this large and much needed project is possible.

I would also like to thank the consortium A.S. Air Control LTD & AMCO A.B.E.E. J.V. for hosting today's event, as well as for their cooperation and response so far, which is essential for the successful completion of the project within the set framework.

Finally, I would like to stress that the implementation of this project would not have been possible without securing funding from the European Union's Cohesion Policy programme "THALIA 2021-2027".

We are therefore moving forward and improving the image of public transport infrastructure, making the bus a real and dignified transport option for all citizens. Our aim is for the project to help increase the use of buses and, by extension, improve road safety, mitigate traffic problems and support vulnerable groups of the population and rural areas.
