It is with great pleasure that I accepted your invitation to welcome the press conference organized by the Pancyprian Association of Rare Genetic Diseases "Unique Smiles" for the celebration of World Rare Disease Day, which this year is celebrated on February 29, 2024.

Today, we are privileged to celebrate not only the global awareness of Rare Diseases but also the 10th anniversary of the "Unique Smiles" Association. These ten years have been a journey of dedication and solidarity with those facing these rare genetic diseases. The smiles that light up their faces are the reward for the work carried out by the Association.

The fight against Rare Diseases requires constant effort and awareness. The Association was created on the initiative of a group of parents who experienced the reality of these Rare Diseases and emerged along the way as an important supporter and helper of people with Rare Diseases. Consequently, the Pancyprian Association has dedicated its action to these heroic people who fight with such strength and resilience.

At the same time, persistent effort and private initiative invested in the creation, in 2022, of the Multidisciplinary Centre in Kotsiatis, an extremely important initiative to improve the quality of life of people facing Rare Genetic Diseases. Early diagnosis, specialized treatment and continuous support are key pillars for the treatment of these conditions.

In conclusion, I would like to congratulate the Association for its ten-year journey and for the unique smiles it offers to people in need.

I wish you to continue the important work you are doing.

Thank you.
