It was with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation to attend today's event of the Nephrology Centre "Nephrodida". The operation of the "Nephrodida" Centre is a milestone in the history of Nephrology in Cyprus, as it is the first day care dialysis centre under private law in Cyprus, within the framework of the General Health Plan
The number of patients with nephrological problems is constantly increasing worldwide and a very large part of the health expenditure is spent in the field of Nephrology, as the treatments require high costs.
With the opening of new centres, patients have the possibility of additional options for their treatment, and healthy competition is created between the various centres, resulting in an upgrading and continuous improvement in the quality of the services provided.
The Nephrology Centre "Nephrodida", as I am aware, uses state-of-the-art equipment and employs trained and experienced medical and nursing staff who contribute to patient satisfaction.
At the same time I would like to note that the Ministry of Health is a strong supporter of the training of nurses in the field of Nephrology and as you know the Education Section of the Nursing Services Directorate has completed the first Nephrology Nursing program, which has also been certified by the European Association of Nephrology Nurses (EDTNA). This program is a major achievement and many European countries are now trying to adopt it. Very soon, the second programme will start and you will be able to apply for participation with nurses from your centre.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The increase in the number of people facing nephrology problems in Cyprus has led to the operation of other Nephrology Centres nationwide while stressing the importance of preventive care and early treatment of health problems.
It is therefore a pleasure to note your presence in the medical scene in Cyprus and as the Ministry of Health we support any efforts that contribute substantially towards improving the quality of life of patients.
In conclusion, I congratulate the Nephrology Centre "Nephrodida" for your dedication to providing a high level of care and service to patients. I wish you every success in your future endeavors and thank you for your contribution to the health sector.
