It is with pleasure that I accepted your invitation to welcome today's 17th International Congress of Neurology with national and international participation, organized by the Cyprus Society of Neurology, which is one of the largest and most prestigious scientific institutions in the medical field.
The Cyprus Neurological Society, since its foundation in January 1998, promotes the principles of medical science with a variety of scientific events for its members, as well as informative events for the public, aiming at the promotion of neurology in Cyprus.
Among its objectives are the promotion of the education and research activity of neurological physicians in Cyprus, as well as the enhancement of communication and cooperation of Cypriot neurological physicians both among themselves and with other health professionals related to neurology in Cyprus and abroad.
The themes of the conference are rich and interesting. It provides important opportunities for professional development, which in combination with the personal experience of each neurologist can lead to real knowledge about the highest good of all, health. It aims to educate, train and inform both neurologists and physicians of other specialties and all health professionals involved in the treatment of neurological diseases in modern times.
The participation of distinguished and renowned professors, academics and clinicians from Cyprus and abroad I am sure will contribute to the further enrichment of knowledge, since through the exchange of views and positions the gain will be valuable and promising. And the expected benefit will be passed on to the Cypriot patient, which is what is sought since neurological diseases are one of the important factors of mortality and disability.
Friends,
Undoubtedly, health, the way it is managed and the level of citizens' relationship with it are inextricably linked to the quality of life, the services provided and the welfare state.
In our country we have a high level of medical services and we owe this to the high level of training of doctors and other health workers. Combined with the introduction of the YESY on 1 June 2019, the biggest health reform in our country, these efforts and your professionalism ensure universal access of our citizens to high quality health services.
I wish you all to always find the strength and courage to continue the life struggle you encounter every day.
The Ministry of Health supports and will continue to support the efforts of the medical community aimed at continuously improving the services provided to our suffering citizens and maintaining their health. Its support will be long-lasting and multi-level.
In conclusion, I must truly congratulate the organizers for the excellent organization of this important international conference and wish you every success in your work.
Thank you.
