It was with feelings of joy and emotion that we gathered here today for the traditional ceremony of confirmation of the new officers who graduated from the Higher Military Educational Institutions of Greece.
Today, we officially welcome to the National Guard the Officers of the Class of 2024, the new leaders of the troops, the new lieutenants, ensigns and lieutenants. I am sure that your families, parents and loved ones feel, as you do, pride in joining the Armed Forces of our country, serving the sacred purpose of securing its territorial integrity and protecting our people.
We all feel the same intense and deep pride. This is because, on the one hand, the National Guard is acquiring new cadres ready to contribute to its further upgrading, and, on the other hand, because your success reflects the dedication and commitment you demonstrated during your training.
This becomes even more important when one considers the highly demanding nature of the training you attended. A training which, in addition to physical and mental strengthening, provided you with a high level of academic knowledge.
You are now part of the extended family of the National Guard. A family that you are called upon to serve. You are the new guardians of our values and ideals.
Remember at every moment of your career that success cannot be based on luck or even on responding well to your duties, but always on sound judgment, insight and, above all, hard work.
"Persecute pains, after which great and glorious things are done to men", the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus teaches us.
"Pursue efforts that require effort. Those that in the end offer great and glorious achievements to men."
The academic and military training you have received have equipped you with the necessary knowledge and skills so that you can build on a solid foundation your own path in the National Guard. Do not hesitate to toil. Do not hesitate to devote time and effort in pursuit of becoming better. Face any challenges with vigor and determination. Keep your head up at all times and look to the future with optimism.
Turn difficulties into opportunities. You will be called upon to demonstrate determination, responsibility, self-control and discipline. Pass on to your subordinates the high ideals of morality, philanthropy, loyalty to duty, which you acquired during your studies. Teach them the pure military spirit and the value of selfless service to country and fellow man.
Demand strict adherence to the rules of discipline and safety in every aspect of military life. Strive to reduce the risks of unpredictability, which many call luck. Rely on the skills and creativity of our manpower.
Young Officers,
The National Guard, six decades after its founding and half a century after the 1974 Turkish invasion, with the occupation still in place, has assumed a new multidimensional role. We are called upon to respond to many challenges simultaneously.
We are modernizing, strengthening and improving the National Guard to make it a modern, reliable, flexible and effective army, capable of defending the sovereign rights of our homeland and fully responsive to modern asymmetric threats.
Through the implementation of our armament program and other innovative changes, we seek to enhance our combat power and deterrence capability.

We do not forget that knowledge of the past is the indicator that points to the path we must follow in order to lead us to the future we desire for our country and our people.
In this effort, to which you will be called upon to contribute a great deal, you can be absolutely certain that the political and military leadership will always be at your side, assisting and supporting you. I am confident that you will meet the expectations of the state and will fully meet the high demands of your mission.
I therefore officially welcome you, once again, to the National Guard family, and wish you all health, personal and family happiness, and a good and productive professional career.
Thank you.
