I would like to express my congratulations to the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance and the Department of Labour Relations, and of course to the Deputy Director of the Department, Mr.Antis Apostolou and his team for the organization of the 10th Business Certification Body Awards Ceremony. An institution established in the business world that aims to promote equality between women and men in the workplace. It is essentially an institution through which businesses seek to confirm that they are gender sensitive, and/or promote gender sensitive actions in order to create a working environment where women and men are treated equally, with equal opportunities in the workplace.
It is true that Cyprus has managed to reduce the gap to 9.7% and is above the European Union (EU) average, but we are not complacent as despite the significant steps forward in the right direction, we recognise that there are still gender inequalities in the workplace.
It is a fact that Cyprus has managed to reduce the gap to 9.7% and is above the European Union (EU) average, but we are not complacent as despite the significant steps forward in the right direction, we recognise that there are still gender gaps in the workplace.
It is a fact that Cyprus has managed to reduce the gap to 9.7% and is above the European Union (EU) average. To this end, our Office, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, is proceeding to formulate new and targeted policies both within the framework of the New Strategy for Gender Equality 2024-2026, but also beyond the Strategy.
I will not tire of repeating that gender equality concerns both men and women, concerns society as a whole and is a fundamental principle and value. This has an impact more generally in the political, socio-economic context, as businesses are part of the equation and the effort to establish gender equality. After all, as the Minister himself says, gender equality goes through work.
I congratulate all the businesses that are being awarded today and I hope that they will continue the good practices that drive and ensure equality between women and men in the workplace and remain an example for other businesses. Our Office is at your disposal for cooperation and further actions in this direction.
Your efforts contribute to our efforts and it is a two-way relationship, as our efforts contribute to yours and we want to work holistically towards our common goal, that of achieving gender equality in the workplace.
