I am particularly pleased to be among you today, because I stand before the whole or a large part of the country's research, innovation and technology ecosystem, to share thoughts and views on an issue that touches the core of evolution and progress, innovation. A concept inextricably linked to economic growth and the well-being of every society.
I would first like to congratulate the Chief Scientist and the Research and Innovation Foundation for this important initiative, which calls on the country's research and business community to build bridges of communication and cooperation, to exploit existing know-how and to develop together innovative products and services that will be able to be market-driven.
I would first of all like to congratulate the Chief Scientist and the Research and Innovation Foundation for this important initiative, which calls on the country's research and business community to build bridges of communication and cooperation, to exploit existing know-how and to develop together innovative products and services that will be able to be market-driven. Only in this way will we be able to fully reap, as an economy and as a society, the benefits that can result from the commercial exploitation of scientific knowledge.
This is also why we have placed the interconnection of research with industry and the encouragement of business innovation at the heart of the new Research and Innovation Strategy 2024-2026. Through a series of policies, reforms and funding programmes, we aim to create a strong, integrated and effectively interconnected R&D&I ecosystem. An ecosystem that builds on the momentum developed in recent years, continuously strengthening its capabilities and expanding its activities, making the most of the tools at its disposal. In the same spirit, and with a view to strengthening the extroversion of the ecosystem, efforts are also being made to promote international cooperation with countries that have significant competitive advantages in priority sectors, such as Greece and Israel, with which joint funding programmes are expected to be announced soon.
At the same time, and in the context of broader government initiatives, such as the Strategy for Attracting Productive Investment and Talent, we are adopting more and more measures and incentives that directly affect the sector. These measures include, inter alia, the extension of tax incentives for R&D expenditure and investment, the amendment of the institutional framework governing the transfer of knowledge and the establishment of spin-off companies by public universities, the conduct of a study on the establishment of a National Development Agency to address the funding gaps identified in relation to SMEs and start-ups, and the establishment of the Cyprus Capital Financing Fund, which will invest mainly in start-up and Investing in the sustainability and competitiveness of Cyprus' growth model. It is no coincidence that this spending has doubled in recent years.
In this effort, investing in the country's human capital also plays a central role. It is people who create, and their knowledge, experience and creativity are the wealth of any society. Through the education and training of our human resources, both in new technologies and in other modern skills required by the global labour market, we are turning every worker, every scientist, into a driver of productivity and innovation.
In addition to the actions we have already heard about, this year the Ministry of State will also launch major projects to transform our infrastructure - the technological engine of the State - projects that will lead to the modernisation of our technological infrastructure, our organisational structures and our public administration.

In addition to the actions we have already heard about, this year the Ministry of State will also launch major projects to transform our infrastructure - the technological engine of the State. I believe that a modern technological State with a serious background will also act as a catalyst for attracting investment in all sectors of the economy, including research and innovation.
Dear Friends,
Two key issues are at the heart of today's debate:
- What are the prospects for scientific research for our future?
- How is it linked to the productive economy and transformed into a benefit for the economy and the citizen
I am confident that through a productive dialogue, we will open new paths and opportunities for turning innovative ideas into practical applications, with a substantial impact, but also with mutual benefit for both the research community and the productive forces of the country.
Thank you very much for your attention and I wish you a constructive day.
