I am delighted to attend today the presentation organized by the University of Cyprus, in collaboration with the University of Nicosia, on the electronic platform "CENSUS of Modern Greek Literature", the innovative open access database of Modern Greek literature in English from the 12th century to the present day.

This is an ambitious and extremely important project of international scope, which opens a large window to the English-speaking world for Greek literature, since it aims to gradually include all English-language translations of Modern Greek literature and all English-language studies related to it.

The project has important advantages to offer to our culture since, among many other things, it bypasses any language barrier by using the channel of English, the international language primarily used in the fields of science, letters and arts. In this way, the participation of recent Greek and Cypriot literature in international cultural debates is enhanced.

The work offers the English-speaking scholar the opportunity to approach Greek literary texts through authoritative English translations and critical essays. On the other hand, the Greek-speaking scholar is facilitated in locating the English-language secondary bibliography of Greek literature.

As the Deputy Ministry of Culture, we acknowledge and welcome initiatives such as the present one, which aims to inform the interested public in Cyprus, and to inform institutions and institutions for their involvement and cooperation in such projects. The aim is the dissemination of Cyprus' publications to the English-speaking world, and thus the extroversion of our intellectual production, as well as the mobilization of research centres, university institutions, libraries, and other bodies to develop similar actions for modern Greek bibliography.

Congratulations are therefore due to the initiators of this project as well as to its scientific leaders, Dr. Afroditi Athanasopoulou and Dr. Marina Rodosthenous-Balafa, and to today's speakers who will present the project to us.

I would like to stress once again that the Deputy Ministry of Culture supports every effort for the development of extroversion and international cooperation.

I would like to stress once again that the Ministry of Culture supports every effort for the development of extroversion and international cooperation. For this purpose, we are proceeding with the design of a Cultural Diplomacy Strategy, through which we expect to define the institutional framework and the procedures of cooperation and synergies of public and other bodies dealing with culture, in order to participate in a European and international field in cultural actions and in collaborations for research and development in a coordinated and targeted way to maximize the benefits for all parties involved.

In conclusion, I would like to welcome to Cyprus and thank I am sure that this project will be a reference for students, researchers and teachers of Modern Greek Studies, but also for translators, as well as for the enrichment of our libraries with English-language materials for Greek studies.

Congratulations to all.

Thank you.
