It is with great pleasure that I am here today, at the Municipal Museum of Engraving Hambi, to inaugurate this wonderful exhibition of engravings by the great Greek painter and engraver Marios Prasino. Art always has a way of uniting, activating and inspiring us, and today is no exception.
The Deputy Ministry of Culture actively supports artistic creation, the education and promotion of the work of contemporary artists, as well as the dissemination of our cultural heritage.
The Hampi Printmaking Museum is an inexhaustible treasure of our country's culture. From the first free engraving courses started by Hampis in 1995 in memory of his teacher - the great Greek engraver A. Tassos - to the creation and operation by Hampis himself of the unique Museum of Engraving in Plataniskia, and later the second Municipal Museum of Engraving in Nicosia. With every exhibition he organizes, and every educational program or workshop for children and adults, he gives us the opportunity to delve into the world of art and appreciate the creativity that emerges from each work.
The exhibition "Marios Πράσινος and the images of the sea bed", from the important collection of George Kostopoulos, curated and written by Professor Manos Stephanidis, is a double offer to our country.
The exhibition "Marios Πράσινος and the images of the sea bed", from the important collection of George Kostopoulos, curated and written by Professor Manos Stephanidis, is a double offer to our place. On the one hand, the collector George Kostopoulos brings the works from Athens, so that we can get to know the great Constantinople artist in depth, and on the other hand, the Municipal Museum of Engraving Hambi confirms, once again, its commitment to promoting the art of engraving for the benefit of our Cyprus.
In addition, the excellent catalogue of the exhibition is an equally important contribution to the cultural events of our country. The love and passion for art of the publisher and collector George Kostopoulos led him to publish an extensive catalogue of the complete works of Marios Prasino from his collection. This extensive catalogue was designed and printed especially for the exhibition at the Hambi Municipal Museum of Printmaking, and is signed by the curator Mr. Manos Stefanidis, Professor Emeritus of the University of Athens.
The Deputy Ministry of Culture could not fail to respond immediately and effectively support this important exhibition in Nicosia, since one of our main objectives, within the framework of the Action Plan for 2024, is the management and promotion of cultural heritage and cultural creation.
The Cypriot public has much to benefit from high quality art, such as that of the great Marios Prasino. Along with his engravings (woodcuts, lithographs, etchings), the exhibition presents his paintings, tapestries, posters and a selection of rare and valuable books -objets d'art.
In inaugurating this unique exhibition, I would like to express my thanks to the Nicosia Municipality, the administration and staff of the Hambi Municipal Museum of Engraving for the excellent organization of the exhibition and their diligent efforts to bring the art of engraving closer to all of us.
I therefore invite you to enjoy the exhibits, be inspired and indulge in the beauty and power of Marios Prasino's work, which in itself represents an entire era and many equivalent art forms.
