Humanity is facing the greatest challenge, that of the climate crisis, which is not only a natural disaster but also a threat to human life. In our country we are facing the effects of the climate crisis, desertification, alteration of the natural landscape, species extinction and loss of biodiversity, oligotrophication, severe weather events and high levels of waste production per capita. Therefore, environmental protection and responsible resource management are key requirements for the sustainable development of Cyprus.

The implementation of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covering issues such as poverty, gender equality, health, education, migration, climate change and environmental protection, plays a key role in achieving sustainable development.

The implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, covering issues such as poverty, gender equality, health, education, migration, climate change and environmental protection, plays a key role in achieving sustainable development. At the same time, the implementation of the 9 principles of the circular economy provide an important framework for promoting responsible resource management, the importance of alternative uses and waste reduction through recycling, change of use, reconstruction, repair, repair, reuse, reduction, reconsideration, and utility decommissioning. After all, in nature itself, the concept of 'useless', of 'rubbish', is absent. Nature does not produce waste, everything is a useful resource for another organism.

Integrating the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the 9 principles of the circular economy into educational initiatives equips children, future citizens, with the knowledge and tools they need to take action in anticipation of a future where development will coexist in harmony with environmental protection in a world that is fairer, more peaceful and prosperous, on a healthier planet.

Recognizing the crucial role of proper education from school and the importance of educational activities in shaping environmental awareness, we support and welcome this initiative of Strovolos Municipality in cooperation with Cyclokodrome for the implementation of awareness-raising activities in primary schools. I also congratulate those involved in the preparation of the relevant Guide to Educational Activities, a valuable tool for schools and teachers.

I wish every success in the awareness-raising activities.
