The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the research organization CARDET, together with the Institute for Development (N. Charalambous) organized a press conference to present the results of the ProW project "Enhancing the well-being of teachers through the promotion of positive behaviour in early childhood".
The press conference took place on Friday, 22 March 2024, at the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and started with a welcome address by the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr. Athina Michaelidou. In her address, the Minister reaffirmed the Ministry's interest in the well-being and empowerment of teachers at all levels. She said that the findings of the project will assist the Ministry in formulating a more effective and clear educational policy on the issue of well-being of teachers at all levels.
Next, Dr. Pambos Vrasidas, Executive Director of the research organisation Cardet presented the final results of the ProW project after its three-year implementation in Cyprus, Greece, Portugal and Romania and then presented the European Observatory on Teacher Wellbeing and Professional Learning which is a key deliverable of the project.
The main objective of the ProW project was to examine, formulate and promote policies and mechanisms aimed at empowering and supporting kindergarten teachers, using two scientific approaches: positive psychology and the System for the Promotion of Positive Behaviour in Schools (SWPBS). The realization of this project was the continuation of the European project "SWPBS - Building School-Wide Inclusive, Positive and Equitable Learning Environments through a Systems-Change Approach", which was also funded by the Erasmus+ European Fund (KA3 policy experimentation).
Based on the findings of the above two projects and through a continuous and constructive dialogue, which emphasises the sustainability of the project's results, the necessity of the Observatory was confirmed, which will contribute to the identification of the needs and priorities of the educational policy and strategy of Cyprus on issues related to well-being and professional learning of teachers at all levels.
