A lioness attacked a keeper yesterday and managed to run away with her mate from azoo in central Iran, Iranian media reported today.
"The lioness, who had been at the zoo for several years, managed to open a cage door, get out and then attack the 40-year-old keeper who had just brought food to the feline couple," a zoo worker told IRIB television network.
"The couple managed to escape," he added. "Immediately after the incident, security forces took control of the zoo," which is located in Arak, 200 kilometers southwest of Tehran, said Amir Khand, the governor of the province, whose statements were quoted by the official Irna news agency."
"Efforts to capture the two lions alive were successful," he added."
