Zelensky calls for aircraft and boycott of Russian oil 2,000 civilians evacuated from the town of Irpin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today called on the international community to provide Ukraine with military aircraft and boycott Russian oil, petroleum products and other exports.
If the invasion (of Ukraine) continues and Russia has not abandoned its plans against Ukraine, then a new package of sanctions is needed for the sake of peace, he said in a videotaped speech.
The price of the Black Sea Brent barrel approached $140 last Sunday night, near the historic high of $147.5 reached in July 2008.
Meanwhile, some 2,000 civilians have so far been evacuated from the town of Irpin near the Ukrainian capital Kiev, Ukrainian police said today.
The statement did not specify over what period of time the evacuations took place.
Ukrainians fleeing Irpin were targeted by shelling by Russian forces on Sunday and forced to find shelters to protect themselves, Reuters witnesses said.
Part of the Black Sea port of Olvia was hit by a military strike, Kiev says
In addition, Ukraine's Ministry of Infrastructure said today that part of the Black Sea port of Olvia, which is under concession to Qatar's seaport company QTerminals, was hit by a military strike.
No one was injured, the ministry said without giving further details.
QTerminals, a joint venture between state-owned Qatar Ports Management (Mwani Qatar) and shipping and logistics group Qatar Navigation (Milaha), was awarded the 35-year concession in 2020 to develop and operate the port.
