With anti-slip chains and in difficult conditions, ambulances rush to respond to dozens of calls they receive daily from mountain communities, either for traffic accidents or other emergencies.
As Cyprus[/B] Ambulance Service Manager Riana Constantinou tells the Times[/B], the crews risk their lives to arrive in time at places where they are called for help in mountain communities.
"We use anti-slip chains on the ambulances, but the snow is such that the roads in many cases are impassable and extremely dangerous.Constantinou the ambulances located at Moniatis, Troodos and Evrychos stations are facing serious difficulties due to the weather conditions, so she appeals to citizens to call the service only for emergencies and serious incidents.
"We understand that people want to go for a ride in the snow, but they are asked to be careful and follow the instructions issued by the police, as we are constantly responding to several incidents of road accidents or falls. Consider that serious incidents have to be taken to hospitals in either Limassol or Nicosia and our crews make these long and difficult journeys every day."
However, he stresses that the queues observed mainly towards Troodos in several cases delay ambulances rushing to emergencies, so he calls on all drivers to give priority to them.
