World Health Organization calls

2022 should be the year in which we end the pandemic, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adanom Gebrejesus, wished today at the regular online briefing for journalists from Geneva.

As the Christmas and New Year holidays approach, Tedros advised families and people who want to spend some time together to think twice.Tedros noted that

the omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 spreads faster

than Delta and causes infections in people who have already been vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19.Both Tedros and emergency response chief Mike Ryan stressed that faster progress should be made on studies of the origin of the new coronavirus. Tedros expressed hope

that China would improve data sharing,

commenting that the research being done cannot reach firm conclusions unless Beijing cooperates.
