Which roads remain closed in the highlands The road network situation

A section of Makarios Avenue in Nicosia will be closed to traffic throughout the weekend due to works.[/B] Specifically, due to asphalt paving works, the road will be closed from 7am today, until 5am on Monday 31/1/2022.

The section of Makarios Avenue, which will be closed to traffic, extends from the light-controlled junction of the avenue with Aglantzia Avenue, up to the junction with Drama Street.

Drivers heading towards the centre of Nicosia are advised to use Armenia Avenue, while drivers heading towards the exit of the capital are advised to use Agia Paraskevi Street.

Drivers travelling on Kennedy Avenue heading towards the city centre are advised to use Karpenissiou Street, while those heading towards the Nicosia - Limassol motorway are advised to use Agia Paraskevi Street.

In mountainous areas, due to the prevailing weather conditions, roads are closed to traffic:
Prodromos - Troodos
Pedoulas - Prodromos
Pedoulas - Pinewood - Kakopetrias
Prodromos - Platron

Open ONLY for vehicles equipped with anti-slip chains and with movement on all four wheels are the roads:
Platron - Troodos
Karvouna - Troodos
Papoutsas - Agios Theodoros

Pedoulas - Kykkos - Kampou
Kakopetrias - Karvouna



In the other mountainous areas the roads are open for all vehicles, however due to frost they have become very slippery and dangerous.

Police recommend particular caution to those travelling on the road network in mountainous areas, and vehicle drivers are advised to drive at a safe, low speed, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and give way to other passing drivers where necessary.

In general, those travelling on the road network are advised to obey traffic signs and the road traffic code to avoid road accidents.

It should be noted that the situation on the road network is variable due to the prevailing winter conditions.
