What the authorities are now looking for after the arrest of the killer of mafioso Alexander Solonik His arrest may lead to the solving of other cases
While the 48-year-old "Greekized" Georgian is on his way to justice, the EL.AS and Interpol are digging deep into his past. What he did over the years, where he lived, whether he was involved in other illegal activities and, most importantly, other death contracts.
They are also looking to see how he acquired a Greek identity, as no one understood a thing when, as he said, he came to Greece ten years ago to serve in the Greek army and of course what he meant when he said that "he came from Cyprus to Athens to attend a funeral".
- This is the killer of Solonik and his 19-year-old partner who lived in Cyprus. He was arrested in Thessaloniki
- A 48-year-old man was arrested for the murder of a Russian mafioso and his partner in 1997. The hitman lived in Cyprus
They say his arrest may lead to the solving of other cases
The wanted killer of mobster Alexander Solonik was arrested Tuesday morning at Thessaloniki's Macedonia airport.
The 48-year-old "Greekized" Georgian arrived at 10:58 on Olympic Airlines flight 547 to terminal 1 from Larnaca and when he underwent an identity check and fingerprinting, it was found that he had an outstanding arrest warrant from 2005 for the murder of the Russian gangster and his 19-year-old girlfriend Svetlana Kottova in Lagonisi, the police, without giving him the slightest room to react, handcuffed him.
The Georgian was caught in the net of the airport police officers after Interpol "gave him up", stating that the person with the details that came out in the name of Karsliadis Ioakim of Vassiliou and Nina, born on 30/1/1974, is a wanted Georgian murderer. Thus, apart from the formal check, he underwent a fingerprint examination and was immediately arrested, while his Greek identity card, as it was found, had been issued by the Greek authorities since 2000.
He did not want to tell the police much, only that he had travelled from Cyprus to Greece to attend a funeral, while 10 years ago he had come back to report to the army.
