Von der Leyen's message on one year since the start of vaccinations "We have come a long way"

A special message to mark the one-year anniversary of the start of vaccinations in Europe was sent by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen via a video posted on Twitter.

In her report, Ms. Von der Leyen stresses that the increase in cases and the rapid spread of the Omicron variant make it even more important to continue vaccination.

"We have come a long way in one year," said Ms. von der Leyen, noting that "today more than 78% of all adults in the EU are vaccinated."

She thanked everyone who worked to achieve this goal, including the health workers who worked "tirelessly" to administer the vaccine and care for patients, as well as all frontline workers.

"Vaccination, including booster doses, is the best protection for all of us at this time," he said.

He added that there are enough doses for everyone to be vaccinated and receive a booster dose.

"So let's protect ourselves and others. This is our best chance to beat the virus," said the Commission President.
