Arrests and injuries in lockdown riots
Specifically, members of the Dutch police riot squads with batons and shields broke up a crowd of thousands of people, who had gathered in Amsterdam on Sunday to protest against the lockdown measures to curb Covid-19 and against vaccinations.
Public gatherings of more than two people are banned under restrictions imposed by the government in an effort to prevent the Omicron variant of the coronavirus from overwhelming the Netherlands' already stressed health care system.
At least 30 people were arrested after the riots, during which four police officers were injured, police said in a statement.
