A hostage situation is unfolding at the Apple store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

It all started on Tuesday afternoon (17:40 local time) when a call was made to police about a possible robbery at an Apple Store located on Leidseplein Square in Amsterdam.

Footage posted on social media shows an armed man holding a person behind a window at gunpoint.

The area has been cordoned off by heavy police forces.

"There is a police operation due to a call at a shop in Leidseplein," Amsterdam police said in a brief statement. According to local television, eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots.
