Last Wednesday, January 26, the Police conducted an operation in Paphos as part of its actions to combat illegal employment and contracting phenomena.
The operation was attended by members of the Paphos PAPA, the Paphos OPE, the YKAN, the PMAD and the YA&M, as well as officials of the Labour Office. During the course of the operation, checks were carried out at construction sites under construction and other workplaces in the wider area of the city and Paphos district.
At a construction site under construction in Kato Paphos, two applicants for political asylum were found working illegally. After being arrested for a first offence, they were taken to a police station, where they were charged in writing and released.
An administrative fine for undeclared work was issued against the employer of the two arrested persons, who was summoned to the Police Station, by the officials of the Labour Office, in the amount of €7,000. An out-of-court fine was also issued to the employer's company, in the amount of €2,750, for violation of articles of the Construction Law.
The Paphos Minor Offences Department is investigating the case.
