Turkey has sent armed men from Karabakh and Syria to Ukraine to join the "foreign legion" formed alongside the Ukrainian army, the Russian state agency RIA-Novosti claims, citing an anonymous Syrian opposition source.

"Turkey sent more than 2,000 armed men from Syria to Nagorno-Karabakh to take part in hostilities against Armenia in 2020 and the majority of them stayed there after the end of the war. Turkey repatriated some of the armed men from Syria and other countries from Karabakh to Ukraine to participate in the conflict on the side of the Ukrainian army," the agency's interlocutor claimed, according to a cable sent from Antalya, Turkey, where Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba are meeting tomorrow, mediated by their Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

According to the Russian agency's source, the gunmen join the "legion of foreigners" called to fight alongside the Ukrainian army by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The RIA-Novosti agency writes, among other things, that according to journalistic information, in 2020 about 2500 armed men were directed to Nagorno-Karabakh by the Turkish secret services to participate in the fighting against the Armenian army, of which about 300 died, part of them returned to Syria, while about 1000 armed men remained in Karabakh until recently.
