Turkey and Qatar have struck a deal with the Taliban to operate Kabul airport

The governments of Turkey and Qatar have struck a deal with the Taliban movement, which is under UN terrorism sanctions, over the operation of Kabul International Airport and four other airports in Afghanistan, Turkey's state-run Anatolia news agency reported.

The parties held productive and effective negotiations, during which they agreed to set up technical teams to define the details of operating the airports in the coming days, Anatoli added, citing unnamed sources.

Doha and Ankara agreed to jointly operate Kabul International Airport, these sources assured. A joint Turkish-Qatari committee will travel to the Afghan capital to continue the process. The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan on August 15, while the Western-backed government and its army collapsed.
