Her condolences on the deaths of Greek expatriates in Ukraine were offered to Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias by his British counterpart Liz Truss during their afternoon meeting at the Foreign Office on Monday.

According to her Twitter post, they agreed to urge the two countries' partners to hold Russia accountable as Britain and Greece "stand united in condemning Putin's brutal invasion of Ukraine and isolating Russia on the international stage."

The two ministers discussed developments in Ukraine and the coordination of Western countries in response to the Russian invasion, as well as issues of bilateral cooperation.

They also touched on the Western Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, with Dendias thanking Truss for the recent statement by a Foreign Office spokesman that Britain "does not believe that the sovereignty of the Greek islands is being challenged". This was a statement in response to a reporter's question about the British position against Cavusoglu's statements on the demilitarisation of the Greek islands.
