At least 19 people have died today, including nine children, from a fire that broke out in a high-rise residential building in the Bronx borough of New York, the fire department of the US metropolis said. The information was confirmed by the mayor of the city.
About 200 firefighters were mobilized at noon, local time, to extinguish the huge fire, which started on the third floor of the building, which has a total of 19 floors, shortly before 11:00, local time.
In a press conference, New York City Fire Chief Daniel Nigro said 32 people have been taken to hospitals in critical condition, with a total of at least 63 injured.

Nigro added that he expects "a lot of casualties" and explained that children are among the injured.
