It probably belongs to the 58-year-old monk who went missing on December 21 from Mount Athos, says the island's mayor

The 58-year-old monk of Mount Athos whose traces have been lost since December, when he went out fishing with a fishing boat in the Gulf of Sighiso, most likely, according to Skopelos mayor Stamatis Parissis, belongs to the body that was washed up Tuesday morning in the island's main port.

As the mayor tells protothema.gr, pieces of robes were found on the body:

"There are many possibilities that want the body to belong to the 58-year-old monk who was lost on December 21 from Mount Athos. Some pieces of robes were found on the body so it is suspected to be the monk. At the moment the body has been taken to the church of Taxiarches in the cemetery of the island and if the weather conditions allow tomorrow it will be taken for an autopsy and DNA test to prove 100% that it is him. Unfortunately there is no refrigerator in Skopelos and at this time a huge problem is emerging."
