[Cyprus Times] Three young drivers tested positive for drugs in Paphos. One with a quantity of cannabis in his possession

Three drivers were found driving under the influence of drugs in Paphos

According to Pafos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou, on 19:30 yesterday evening members of the traffic police while conducting checks on Eleftherias Avenue in Chloraka stopped a car driven by a 21 year old, resident of Paphos for checking. In a preliminary examination for the detection of drugs conducted on him, it was found that he had drugs in his saliva. He then gave an additional sample of saliva which, after being sealed, will be sent to the State General Chemistry Department for laboratory analysis. A search of his car did not reveal anything else illegal.

Moreover, on another occasion a patrol of the Pafos Police Directorate stopped a car driven by a 30 year old resident of Pafos on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue in Kato Pafos. A search that followed in his possession revealed a quantity of cannabis and at the same time he was arrested for the offence of unlawful possession of a class B controlled drug. He was subsequently taken to the Paphos police station where he was interrogated and stated that the drugs found were his and he possessed them for his own use

He was released from custody after being charged in writing. Subsequently before he was discharged he was breathalyzed tested with a zero reading and given a preliminary drug test and found to have drugs in his saliva. He also gave additional sample to be sent for scientific tests.The 30-year-old's vehicle was transferred and detained at Paphos Traffic Police.

Also in 3rd case members of Paphos Traffic Police on Alexandrou Papagos Avenue in Paphos, stopped a car driven by a 24-year-old who resides in Paphos. In a preliminary test to detect drugs, he was found positive and a second sample was taken to be sent for testing at the State General Laboratory. A search of the car turned up nothing. The Pafos Traffic Police and the YKAN ( Pafos Police Station) are cooperating to investigate all three cases.
