Christina Ioannou, 13.5 years old from Paphos gave lessons in altruism and humanity today. By selling her own books she raised the sum of 210 euros which she offered to the Cyprus Red Cross - Pafos Branch to help families in need of support.

As she told CNA, she sold her books online and managed to sell them, raising the 210 euros which she decided to offer to families supported by the Cyprus Red Cross - Pafos Branch. Asked about this, Christina said that she is driven by feelings of humanity and in this context she adopted a little girl from Senegal who she supports every month.

The president of the Cyprus Red Cross - Pafos Branch, Maria Korakidou, referred to the hunger and poverty that exists all over the world.

Certainly, she said, we cannot help the whole world in all countries that are suffering and starving, noting however that "we can help those who are, next to us, those who are close to us and those who we know and have come and asked for help from us."

"So Christina is showing us the right way with the money she has raised and offers it to the Red Cross to help other children her age," said Korakidou, adding that she "brings smiles to them at least on Holy Days."

We also have a duty, she noted, to help people who are unable to cope and live below the poverty line.

Asked about this, Ms. Korakidou said that in December the Cyprus Red Cross - Paphos Branch helped 400 families after an assessment.
