On Saturday the PDOED votes on possible measures in relation to pandemic measures
Extraordinary Pancyprian General Assemblies of the PDOED are taking place on Saturday, January 15, where a vote will be held among the members of the Organization in order to authorize the Board of Directors. to take possible reaction measures, not excluding strikes, when necessary, in relation to the serious problems created by the inadequate protection measures taken against the Covid-19 pandemic in school units, as well as the unjustified and undocumented different treatment of pre-primary, special and primary education.
Voting will take place from 10:00 to 16:00.
According to the PDOED, the voting will take place in the following centres : Event Hall, PDOED Headquarters, 184 Kyrenia Avenue, Aglantzia, K' Primary School of Limassol - Agios Panteleimonas, Limassol, Drosia Primary School K.B' "Michalakis Paridis", Larnaca, Paralimnios A' Primary School, Paphos IB' Primary School "Pefkios Georgiades", Astromeritis Primary School.
Members of the Organization can vote at any polling station.
Subject to approval by the Ministry of Health, provision will be made to ensure that all relevant Ministry of Health protocols on coronavirus are applied during the voting process.
To this end, antiseptic will be available at the entrance to and within each centre, thermometry will be carried out on entering the premises, the distances provided for in the relevant instructions will be observed, all persons entering the polling centre premises will be required to wear a mask and produce a Safe Pass, a pen will be provided by the Electoral Commission for each voter to exercise their right to vote, and the polling booths will be open.
The PDED calls on school units to inform teachers about the holding of the General Assemblies and read the relevant resolution to the teachers' associations.
An online general information meeting will be held on Friday, 14 January at 16:00 via Teams.
The resolution
The resolution, according to a statement from the PDED, to which members of the organization must respond Yes or No, is as follows:
"I was informed about the serious problems created by the inadequate protection measures taken against the Covid-19 pandemic, in school units, as well as the unjustified and undocumented different treatment of pre-primary, special and primary education. As a result of the above, there is insufficient safety for children, teachers and staff within school units, especially during periods of pandemic outbreak."
The Ministry of Education is solely responsible for safety and health issues in school units, which should and must manage them more directly and effectively.
"I authorize the Board of Directors of the P.O.E.D. to. Prevent any undocumented separation between special, pre-primary and primary education; 2. Demand that safety and health conditions in our schools be ensured; 3. Demand their orderly and smooth operation, by all legal means it deems appropriate, not excluding strike measures," the resolution concludes.
