They've taken Tesla patrol cars for silent pursuits British police authorities are looking into the usability of the electric sedan

Quiet pursuits and arrests are promised by the Tesla Model 3 patrol cars[/B] that have been part of the British police fleet for about nine months.

These have been received as part of a pilot project to gather data on the effect of additional vehicle emergency warning systems (e.g.e.g. blue LED beacons) on the electric sedan's autonomy.

After months of structural testing in real-world conditions, the company found that the zero-emission patrol cars can travel more than 320 km at pursuit speeds and with their blue beacons activated.

In particular, the research demonstrates that the Model 3 can operate for more than four hours at full operational activity.

The test also concluded that the built-in surveillance systems (audio and video) have very little impact on the car's battery, at the same time that it is estimated that the electronic Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system would "subtract" just a few miles from the battery capacity if used for a typical three-hour period.

Tesla's head of emergency services, Max Toozs-Hobson suggests British authorities should dutifully follow the brand's advice on maximising autonomy when they don't need to intervene.

He also recommends activating "Chill Mode" to reduce speed and avoid the frequent and sudden accelerations that - as we all know - "steal" much of the autonomy.

According to Tesla, its patrol cars are also proving to be very economical. After 15,000 miles, new tires and new brakes were required, but the overall cost of the serivice was significantly less, compared to an internal combustion engine patrol car.

It should be noted that three Model 3s have also been delivered to the British fire service, whose goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
