In the arrest of two persons, a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were arrested yesterday by members of the police in connection with the investigation of burglary of a dwelling, attempted burglary of a second dwelling, and unlawful possession of property.

The two suspects were spotted by members of Paphos CID in the area of a residential hotel complex in Paphos, where the attempted burglary and the burglary of two houses were committed yesterday morning, and proceeded to arrest them, following evidence against them.

The members of the CID went to the hotel complex for investigation purposes, around 11.00 yesterday afternoon, following a complaint made to the police by a woman staying at a residence in the complex, about an attempted burglary of her residence. According to the complaint, shortly before 6.30am on Thursday morning, the complainant noticed an unknown man trying to break a window of her residence and after she shouted for help, the suspect fled.

While members of Paphos CID were conducting investigations at the scene of the attempted burglary at around 11am.30 at noon, the complainant identified and pointed out to them the suspect man, aged 26, who at that time was departing from an adjacent residence of the hotel complex, in a car he was driving, with a woman, aged 22, as a passenger. It was subsequently discovered that the 26-year-old and 22-year-old had rented the previous day and were staying at the residence from which they were seen departing in their car.

Police members stopped the vehicle of the two suspects for inspection and after finding a laptop computer[/B] in the possession of the 22-year-old, for the possession of which she did not give a satisfactory explanation, they proceeded to arrest the young woman for the offence of unlawful possession of property and for tests to determine whether the computer was the product of theft.

Further examinations conducted on the premises of the apartment complex, revealed evidence against the 22-year-old woman for the burglary of another residence, committed shortly before 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning. No property was stolen from the residence

The 26-year-old and 22-year-old were arrested on court warrants and detained for the purposes of police investigations, with Paphos CID continuing their investigations.
