Hadjipandela - Scientists meet today On the table: abolition of safepass in places of first necessity and reduction of quarantine - Consideration of third doses for 12-17 year olds Tomorrow for approval by the Cabinet any decisions taken

The abolition of the safepass in places of first necessity, the reduction of quarantine, and the administration of third doses of vaccines to minors 12-17 years old are expected to be on the agenda today, at the scheduled meeting between the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee and the Minister of Health, Michael Hadjipandela.

The Cyprus[/B] Times[/B] understands that processes are already underway to divide the sites into three categories based on their risk.

Based on the data available so far, the division is expected to be as follows:

Low-risk premises:

Supermarkets, bakeries, retail, pharmacies, etc.

Medium-risk premises:

Catering centres, cafes etc.

High risk premises:

Entertainment centres, weddings, christenings etc.

With this separation, the recommendations provide for safepass to be completely removed from low risk premises. In other words, the experts recommend that the safepass be abolished in places of first necessity, supermarkets, bakeries and pharmacies.

At the same time in high-risk areas, the presentation of a safepass is taken for granted, while, we are told, there will be a discussion again about the compulsory presentation of a negative test in music and dance centres, both for vaccinated and unvaccinated persons.

The reactions of triple-vaccinated citizens seem to be troubling epidemiologists, with some of them suggesting that the measure should be lifted for triple-vaccinated people. Some of the experts consider the measure strict

for people who have been vaccinated with all three doses, so they will recommend that the measure be reconsidered.

Time to reduce quarantine for covid sufferers?

The view that the time has come to reduce quarantine for covid sufferers was expressed by Dr Petros Karagiannis, speaking to the Cyprus Times

.

A proposal to reduce quarantine to 7 or 5 days has been put on the table again, but a competent source said this has not yet gone to the Cabinet for approval, giving time for the measures that came into force days ago to be evaluated and in fear of a backlash.

Now again, the issue of reducing self-limitation will be back on the table since the data according to experts is now favourable and with the epidemiological picture showing improvement.

Third dose in children aged 12-17 years...

Another issue that will occupy the meeting and possibly get a "green light" to go to the Cabinet for approval is the administration of a third dose of vaccine to children aged 12-17 years.

The EMA has already announced the approval of Pfizer's vaccine for a booster dose in adolescents aged 12 years.

However, the meeting again is expected to discuss review and simplification of protocols in various areas, as many measures have been in place for some time without any modification.

Finally, there are some thoughts about extending the test to stay to other services, but some of the experts do not think that it is a first necessity to extend this measure. Any decisions taken are expected to be put before the Council of Ministers tomorrow, Thursday, which has the final say.
