A new application to help women facing abusive behaviour will be launched in March What was said today in Parliament at the special session in honour of International Women's Day

The special session in honour of International Women's Day was held in Parliament with a focus on the war in Ukraine.

The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, dressed in the colours of Ukraine, spoke about the unarmed women who face the Russian tanks and those who take the road of refuge.

In a similar spirit, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the women of Ukraine who are experiencing the horrors of war and to the Russian mother who loses her son in an unjust war, while calling for its immediate end.

Mitsotakis also referred to the initiatives taken by the government to tackle inequalities and support women, especially the most vulnerable.

In this context, he said that a new application will be launched in March to help women facing abusive behaviour.

"Soon, with the help of Vodafone, an application will be launched that will allow a woman at risk to ask for help by pressing a button on her mobile phone. The panic button is used in many countries and has been a request from many women's organisations," she said. At the same time, she noted that the "neighborhood nannies" program and the "Fofi Gennimata" breast cancer prevention program, which is expected to benefit 1.3 million women aged 50-69, will be launched in March.

However, SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras was absent from the debate, which was commented on by MPs from the other parties.

However, the leader of the official opposition positioned himself on Women's Day with a tweet saying "We honor the struggles for women's rights. Our daily debt to those who study, work, struggle in unequal conditions.

To those who have stifled fear and magnified #MeToo. We owe it to ourselves to change the social conditions. So that in the next count no one is missing."
