The communities of the border area of Tilliria are crying out The fishing shelter remains out of order What the mayor of Kato Pyrgos said

The fishing shelter of the border area of Tilliria remains out of order.

Strong complaints are being voiced by the community councils and residents of the outlying area of Tilliria about the delay in the cleaning of the port basin of the fishing shelter in the area.

Due to the currents and the location of the harbour entrance, almost every year tons of sand are transported from the open sea, effectively trapping the boats of the fishermen.

The mayor of Kato Pyrgos Tilliria, Nikos Kleanthous, said that "for almost three months now, the professional fishermen of the area have been unable to work as their boats remain trapped in the fishing shelter."

"If the sand is not cleared," he explained, "they cannot go offshore."

Kleanthous called on the relevant government departments to act immediately by cleaning the harbour basin in the first stage and giving a definitive solution to the problem while pointing out that the shelter cannot actually be used even by port and maritime police vessels.
