28-year-old Yasmina Ali talks about her "escape" from her repressive family, her first liberating orgasm, her marriage to a Jewish man and the strength her work has given her
About the strength she has found through her unconventional profession, the dangers she faced trying to escape the conservative environment she grew up in and her first liberating orgasm, Yasmina Ali spoke to the New York Post.
The 28-year-old "top Afghan porn star" as the New York newspaper calls the charming woman, was in the spotlight in 2020 when her father and his cousin were arrested on suspicion of plotting her murder for "shaming the family" with her involvement in porn and for choosing to marry a Jewish man.
The young woman's father, Mohammed Patman, allegedly traveled to Slovakia in 2018 in an attempt to locate his daughter and a professional hitman allegedly agreed to kill the porn star for $70,000. According to the Post, legal proceedings have begun to extradite Patman and his cousin to Slovakia.
"I have no contact with my family so they have not told me face to face how they feel about my current career. My parents have always tried to scare me, using threats of God, hell, various punishments. My father had threatened to kill me if I ever left Islam, as I would tarnish my religion, Afghan culture and my family's honour," the 28-year-old, now an atheist, confesses to the newspaper.
"But at the end of the day, this is my life and I don't care how others feel about my career. I follow my heart and do what I like because this is my life, my body, my rights."
Her start in the porn industry
Ali was born in Kabul in 1993. After spending the early years of her life in the shadow of the repressive Taliban regime, she and her family emigrated to the UK in the early 2000s. According to the Toronto Sun, Ali's father "was granted asylum because he provided translation services to British and American soldiers fighting in the Middle East".
But Ali's oppression did not stop when she came to England, as her conservative family left her no room to breathe and live her life as she wanted.
When she reached adolescence, Ali "escaped" from her parents and married Jewish photographer David Cohen. She renounced her religion, "unlocked" her sexuality and began her kinky career as an adult film star.
"What surprised me when I started working in the industry was how well women were paid compared to their male co-stars. In other professional fields it is often the case that women with more qualifications and experience are paid less than their male counterparts and don't get the same respect," she says.
Ali's videos on Pornhub have now surpassed 9 million views. But it took a lot of courage for her to decide to pursue the career she wanted, defying what she had been taught growing up and all the fears and guilt she felt.
Her view on the Taliban
Earlier this month, Ali participated in Tommy McDonald's I Hate Porn podcast. There, the 28-year-old called the Taliban hypocritical, saying that many members of the movement are fans of porn, some secretly and some not so much.
Ali commented that she would not be surprised if many of them watched porn, despite the fact that they constantly oppress women and stifle their sexuality. "Sexually repressed societies develop obsessions. If you look at where most views come from, you will see that they come from Middle Eastern countries and India."
In the same interview, Jasmine also revealed how she learned to enjoy sex, explaining that it took her a long time to overcome the shame she felt about her desires.
After running away from home, Ali had to make radical changes to her life, from the food she ate to the way she dressed. One of the changes involved exploring her body.
"I couldn't masturbate. I couldn't reach climax," she says of her failed attempts at self-gratification during that period.
Finally, after months of practice, the young girl was able to reach climax, with that first orgasm working liberatingly. "It helped me to relax and try different things," she says, who remains a fan of experimenting in bed, in front of and behind the camera.
