The issue of the loss of use of occupied properties concerns the State, says the Speaker of the Parliament

The Speaker of the Parliament, Anita Demetriou, assured the Committee of Occupied Municipalities that the issue of compensating the refugee population for the loss of use of occupied properties concerns the State in various ways.

Ms Demetriou met yesterday with the chairman and members of the Committee of Occupied Municipalities, with whom she discussed issues of concern to the refugee world with particular emphasis on issues of equal burden sharing, loss of use of occupied properties and issues of enlightenment abroad.

According to a statement issued by the House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressing the full support of all parliamentary parties to the refugee world, which has been and continues to be severely tested more than forty-seven years after the Turkish invasion of 1974, said that the issue of compensation for the refugee world in terms of loss of use of occupied properties is of concern to the State in various ways.

"And as a difficult and complex issue, it must be addressed with prudence and a willingness to find the most appropriate solutions under the circumstances for the benefit of the affected refugees," it said.

Finally, the Speaker of the Parliament assured those present at the meeting that all MPs in their contacts abroad, either as members of inter-parliamentary organisations or as members of missions, have as their main objective the enlightenment on the Cyprus problem and the multiple consequences of the ongoing occupation on the refugee world.
