The state budget is again "fundamentally managerial" said the President of the EPP What he said in plenary

Once again, the state budget "is basically administrative," said EPP President Marinos Sizopoulos on Wednesday, noting that "no one is questioning the infrastructure projects, but we should not dwell on them alone."

During the discussion of the state budget in the plenary session of the Parliament, the President of the EPP said that "the budget will acquire a developmental form when developmental projects of a contributory nature are included in it, which will provide the state with income with which to finance new projects."

He added that "the discussion of the 2022 budget is taking place under the weight of the consequences and the health, economic and social uncertainty caused by the continuation of the coronavirus pandemic, the prolongation of which has brought about significant changes both in labour relations and in the economic model of each individual country".

As Marinos Sizopoulos said, in Cyprus, "the pandemic confirmed the long-standing weaknesses of the economy, weaknesses which the EPP had been pointing out all the previous years, but the governments of the time did not show the corresponding sensitivity and response."

The EPP, the President noted, "stressed the need for budgets to change philosophy. They should not aim to achieve only quantitative targets but also qualitative ones, to gradually give our economy macroeconomic stability."

The President of the EPP, referring to the Cyprus problem, called on all those who, in 2004, "voted against the Annan plan and today changed their stance to justify it without evasion"."Let them justify why they insist on continuing the same failed process because the attempt to justify wrong choices undermines the future of our country", Mr. Sizopoulos continued, saying that "finally, some people ought to speak honestly".Whether "they are seeking a democratic, functional and viable solution or a solution of a disguised confederation, which was and is Turkey's constant goal".For the EPP, said Marinos Sizopoulos, "there are no dilemmas and vacillations and we seek the restoration of the Cyprus problem to its international basis as a problem of invasion and occupation and the convening of an international conference on the Cyprus problem as envisaged by the decision of the General Assembly. On the tourism sector, Mr. Sizopoulos said that "the development of quality forms such as medical, conference and sports is lacking, resulting in a lack of attraction of high-income tourists, while the absolute number of tourists visiting our country is deliberately promoted and not the net annual profit." On the tourism sector, Mr. Sizopoulos said that "the development of quality forms such as medical, conference and sports is lacking, resulting in a lack of attraction of high-income tourists, while the absolute number of tourists visiting our country is deliberately promoted and not the net annual profit".The President of the EPP said that "in the construction sector the phenomenon of overheating has been repeated and in fact, in the context of the Investment Program of Naturalizations, the Governments have proceeded to grant derogations to entrepreneurs for developments which in many cases negatively affect the environment and do not ensure the possibility of effective response in cases of emergencies such as fire, earthquake, criminal acts." He noted that "the culmination of this policy is the naturalization scandal, the publicity of which has brought economic consequences to our country, exposed it internationally, lost its credibility, and damaged its prestige and status.""We did not expect and did not expect radical changes on the basis of our suggestions and proposals," he said. Sizopoulos, noting that "the experiences of the past should be a source of reflection for those in power and they should gradually take measures so that the Cypriot economy can expand into new innovative and high-tech sectors".In his speech, the President of the EPP noted the need "to prepare programmes and investments for the qualitative upgrading of the primary and secondary sectors of the economy, so that our country can acquire partial or relative sufficiency of consumer goods and reduce dependence on imported goods". He added that "in order to achieve this objective, in addition to the absorption of funds from the relevant European programmes, the rich scientific potential of our country could be exploited, which would lead to a reduction in unemployment and emigration, especially of young people"."The real economy, apart from being quantitative, must also be qualitative", said the President of the EPP, noting that "an important factor in qualitative development is the human-centred form that must characterise the economic policy of the state".He concluded by saying that "resources must be distributed as evenly as possible to citizens, either directly or indirectly" because this "will reduce the impoverishment of citizens and will contribute substantially to the preservation of social cohesion, which is in a state of disintegration."
