Scenarios for the formation of a "government" in the occupied territories Informal contacts have begun
Informal contacts for the formation of a "government" in the occupied territories have begun, writes Yeni Douzen, which speaks of a three-party "government" with the participation of the People's Party in the CCP-DP partnership, while Avrupa suggests that Ankara wants a CCP-PTK partnership for a comfortable majority in the "parliament".
Yeni Dusen reports that tomorrow the central governing body and on Saturday the supreme party parliament, the highest party organ of the CEC, is meeting, where the issue of forming a "government" will be discussed. Within the week, the collective bodies of the PKK and the PPP will also meet.
The People's Party, according to its general secretary, Gulsiah Sanver Manavglu, discussed in their collective bodies both the result of the "elections" and possible scenarios for the formation of a "government".
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Renaissance Party, Erhan Arikli, from whose party members who did not help in the "elections" were removed, said they will not join a "coalition" under the current order. The most important thing, he said, is to be able to produce (the "government") and not to participate in it.
The chairman of the CEC, Faiz Suzhouoglu said today that the scenarios about the formation of a "government" and the names being bandied about for the various "ministries" are just "gossip" and "are wrong". According to the "constitution", he continued, they have a 10-day legal process before they can get a mandate to form a "government" which they will use to enable them to move swiftly through the procedures to arrive at its formation.
It is not certain, he added, with whom they will form a "government", but it should be a figure that has a comfortable majority in "parliament". "Our goal is a long-term government," he said. He said the CEC supports the decision taken by both Ersin Tatar and Turkey on the policy of defending the two-state solution and the argument for two, equal, sovereign states.
According to PTK chairman Toufan Erhurman said that the "people" had put a lot of responsibility on the PTK by increasing its power and "seats" and added that the party would exercise tough opposition to move the "people" away from the brink of the precipice it is now on economically.
He noted that if "bills" come to the "parliament" which will even slightly soup up the economy, the PTK will not oppose them just for the sake of opposition. "If what Mr. Suzhouoglu means by talking about radical measures is to reach further into the people's pockets and increase taxes, our opposition to them will be harsh," he added, noting that the PTK's next goal is to form a "self-ruling government."
Meanwhile, in other statements yesterday, CA chairman Erhan Arikli referred to Bertan Zaroglu, who left the CA and joined the CEC but failed to get elected, he said that Zaroglu used all his power and influence over the CA base, even bringing from Alexandretta "a car full of community leaders" who went from door to door, trying to convince people and handing out lists. According to Mr Arikli, if Mr Zaroglu spent this money on the CA, the party would elect 8-10 'MPs' rather than two and Zaroglu himself would become an 'MP' and maybe even a 'minister'.
A written statement issued by the general secretary of the Left Movement, Abdullah Korkmazhan said that the results of the "elections" were a failure for the leftist and democratic forces. He noted that the forces supporting the federal solution suffered serious losses against the secessionist forces opposing the solution and that the right-wing and status quo forces have been strengthened more
According to Korkmazhan, the main reason for this failure is the fact that the peace and democracy forces failed to unite around a common program and participated in the process divided and bickering among themselves.
Pointing to the large abstention, he notes that those who abstained were overwhelmingly leftists and progressives and that at the basis of the boycott was a lack of trust and loyalty to the regime and its parties, as well as the fact that no other option was offered due to the failure to unite the forces of peace and democracy.
