The book of condolences on the death of David Maria Sassoli was signed by the President of the Parliament
The book of condolences, which was opened at the European Parliament Office in Cyprus, on the death of the President of the European Parliament David Maria Sassoli, was signed today by the President of the House of Representatives, Anita Demetriou, according to a statement by the Parliament.
The European family, the President of the Parliament said in her message, has prematurely lost an important figure, an ardent defender of European ideals, European integration, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, a progressive leader with a vision, which he served tirelessly and selflessly.
David Maria Sassoli put the human being at the heart of his efforts to build a Union of solidarity and justice, accessible to citizens even in the difficult circumstances created by the pandemic.
The work he leaves as President of the European Parliament is an important legacy. His vision will continue to inspire us, Mrs Demetriou added.
In her message, the President of the Parliament, on behalf of all Members of the House of Representatives and herself personally, expresses her sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, his colleagues in the European Parliament and the friendly Italian people.
