The President of the Republic chaired a meeting with the Scientific Advisory Committee and the Ministers of Health, Finance, Education, Labour and Justice and the Deputy Minister of Innovation, the Government Spokesperson, the Deputy Government Spokesperson and officials. The focus was on the recent spate of outbreaks in the shadow of the Omicron mutation and, of course, the measures recommended by scientists.

At the same time, the President was informed about the situation in state hospitals and the progress of the vaccination programme.



As the Government Spokesman said in a statement issued immediately afterwards, during the meeting the situation regarding the development of the pandemic, the data in state hospitals and the development of the vaccination programme were discussed, among other things. The additional measures recommended by scientists to deal with the outbreak observed in our country in recent days were also discussed.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and the President had the opportunity to listen to the views and opinions of those present. The measures recommended by the experts will be discussed at tomorrow's Cabinet meeting for decision making.

The President thanked the SAI members for their substantial contribution to the whole effort being made to keep the situation manageable. "We reiterate once again that the response to the health crisis requires the assistance of all of us," he concluded.

The measures expected to be approved by the Cabinet

Final decisions in each case will be taken tomorrow by the Council of Ministers, which meets at 9:30 a.m. Immediately afterwards the Minister of Health will announce the decisions.

-Return of pupils and teachers to schools with physical presence on Monday 10 January, despite the contrary view of some scientists with increased testing.

-Reduction to 10 people of the number of people assembled in homes instead of the current 20.

-Reduction of the number of people in centres, eating places, weddings, christenings, etc. Information for up to 200 people.

-With worshippers in churches on Epiphany. Scientists have suggested a reduction in the number of worshippers however this is a matter that has been a government decision from the beginning

-Increase the rate of telecommuting from the current 40% to 50%.

There is also a recommendation to continue making the self test available to citizens, while the issue of reducing quarantine from 10 days to 5 days for virus positive persons is expected to be placed before the House in the next few days reportedly.
