The Christodoulides' resignation did not come as a thunderbolt to the government and DISY, who nevertheless waited to see if the outgoing foreign minister would have second thoughts after the publication of Averoff's proposal.
Government sources say that in the next few hours there will be a public statement by the President of the Republic on the developments. Nicos Anastasiades intends to thank Nicos Christodoulides for their long-term cooperation and to state that his decision is fully respected.
At the same time, he will announce the person who will take over the reins of the ministry next Tuesday. Ioannis Kasoulides is seen as the frontrunner, whose circle is currently neither confirming nor denying the information. Sources from the Presidency do the same, referring to the announcements to be made by the President himself.
In this case, Nicos Christodoulides will return the keys of the Ministry to the person from whom he received them on 1 March 2018, in a handover ceremony that took place in a highly charged and emotional atmosphere.
The outgoing Foreign Minister will spend his last day at the ministry together with his counterpart from Kuwait, who is visiting Cyprus tomorrow.
