By Nicolas Peter KapartiThe "hot potato" of quarterly exams and the unknown perpetrators who are burning our schools Another school year is taking place in troubled waters "We were forced to mobilise because we were left with no other choice", say students "The culprits who caused this damage must be identified", says the General Secretary of the PDED #CyprusTimes
With troubled "waters" another school year is being conducted. On the one hand the chains of outbreaks in schools, on the other hand the attacks of the previous days in primary schools against the background of the measures and in the background the quarterly exams, which are not accepted neither by teachers nor by students, but only by the Ministry of Education itself.
So while students are clamoring for the abolition of quarterly exams, the Ministry of Education is proceeding according to the timetable set by the relevant legislation, and is preparing to implement the institution in the new school year in all three grades of high school.
At the same time, pressure is being exerted for changing the framework for Grade 3, given that senior students are currently required to take 3 exams in 6 months (Q1, Q2 and Pancyprians).
It may be that the separation of the examinations for the third year of high school for graduation and access to universities is a positive step compared to the previous system, but the fact that this will take place within the framework of the examinations per quarter does not satisfy students and teachers.
As a result, the students, wanting to express their opposition, have announced a mobilisation for next Tuesday in order to "alert" the Ministry of Education.
Talking to Cyprus Times, PSEM president Gregory Gregoriou explained that: "we were forced to the point of mobilising because we were left with no other choice. The Ministry, since the day we were elected, has not listened to us and does not take into account the problems and concerns of the students. It does not listen to what students have to say, undermines the organized student movement and operates in an authoritarian manner."
"When," Gregory Gregoriou continued, "we after the Conferences of the Provincial Coordinating Committees of each Province - where we received the message that there is no more to the situation and no student can stand the way the schools are currently operating with this exam-centric system - we were asked to take strong measures."</B-24
mobilization on Tuesday, December 12, 10 o'clock:30, outside the Presidential Palace, to demand a democratic school, a school that educates every student holistically and does not force them to go from exam to exam and from exam to exam just to chase a grade," he stressed.
Asked to comment on whether there was any reaction from the Ministry following the announcement of their mobilization, the PSCM president replied in the negative, while noting that: "the Ministry made me an appointment on January 10 to discuss, four days before the exams. And when they asked for an appointment sooner to talk to the Minister, I was told that he could not."Άφαντοι οι δράστες που επιτέθηκαν στα σχολεία

Cyprus Times reports, in addition to fingerprints collected from schools and images secured from closed-circuit television cameras in the area, authorities interviewed some suspicious faces, but so far nothing concrete has emerged that will lead them to the perpetrators.
In a statement to theCyprus Times, PODD general secretary Haris Charalambous, made a call to the police to proceed with investigations and identify the culprits who caused this damage.
It is noted that two-thirds of the Secondary School is functioning normally and it is expected that by January 10, much of the damage will be repaired and all students will be able to return to school. In particular, asCyprus Times is informed, at the moment, due to the damage suffered by the school, the 5th and 6th grade students are absent from the Deuteras school. While, as is known, the students and teachers of the 6th Primary School - "Polycarpou Vlachou", returned to their desks as of December 6.
