The Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court ruled that the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Georgios Skiadaresis, will rule on the authenticity of the transcribed conversation and whether the audio document is legal evidence and can be taken into account
Competent to assess whether or not to withdraw from the file the case file that was formed following a lawsuit filed by the deceased businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos, against former President of the Supreme Court Vasiliki Thanou-Christofilou, is the head of the Economic Crime Department of the Athens Appeals Prosecutor's Office Christos Bardakis, the Supreme Court Prosecutor's Office ruled.
Mr. Bardakis will rule on the authenticity of the transcribed conversation between Andreas Vgenopoulos and a businesswoman (D.M.), who allegedly acted as an intermediary representative of Mrs. Thanou, as well as whether the first-appeared tape is legal evidence and can be taken into account, whether it is genuine and whether it is indeed new evidence.
In particular, by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgios Skiadaressis, who was in charge of all procedural parameters, conditions, etc. the handling of the archived criminal case file, which had been formed following a complaint by the former strong man of MIG Andreas Vgenopoulos, against Vasiliki Thanos and other persons, was forwarded (this case file), to the competent, according to the provision of Article 35 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (after the abolition of Article 29 paragraph 4 of the Code of Criminal Procedure) Christos Bardakis.
In particular, the Head of Economic Crime will evaluate the newly discovered audio document whether it is legal evidence and can be taken into account, whether it is genuine and whether it is indeed new evidence, in order to, withdraw the case file and review or not the case.
In fact, in the relevant transmission of the Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court, it is noted that if during the control is assessed as not genuine or illegal, this audio recording, to act competently so that its production and its use is subject to criminal control.
It is recalled that the disputed audio document captures a conversation between Andreas Vgenopoulos and the businesswoman D.M., who appeared to be acting on behalf of Vasiliki Thanos in order to extort money so that the former president of the Supreme Court could facilitate the businessman in his court cases.
This money, as the businessman himself had denounced in a press conference in May 2016, was requested to be given by the "book method" (i.e. to place the money in a book) and even the amount of money would have been placed in books that would have occupied the size of a "library".
