Stellantis is creating an innovative project in line with its electrification strategy.

After years of intensive research, the "Arena Del Futuro" track - located next to the A35 motorway, which connects Brescia and Milan - is ready to be exploited with the contribution of Stellantis. The facility will be dedicated to research on the innovative technology of dynamic inductive charging. The 1,050-metre-long track has been successfully inaugurated, with the 1 MW electricity supply allowing the "Arena del Futuro" to be used as an innovative testing ground for the process of charging cars while they are on the move.

The new, all-electric FIAT 500 will play a leading role in these tests. Already, the legendary model has covered several hundred kilometres of testing in this "futuristic arena" with encouraging results. The aim is to investigate how dynamic inductive charging (DWPT Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer) can contribute to the more efficient use of electric vehicles and thus to the reduction of emissions to the environment from transport.

Stellantis' participation in this innovative project underlines the Group's electrification strategy, as presented on 8 July 2021 during the EV Day event. The aim is for users to enjoy not only innovative vehicles with long range and fast charging, but overall an ecosystem of services to meet their ever-growing needs.

With the DWPT system, electric vehicles can charge wirelessly while driving in the electrified lanes, with the relevant infrastructure located under the asphalt. The technology can be applied to all vehicles fitted with the appropriate receiver, which transfers the electricity from the road surface to the car's battery. At the same time, the system will work with advanced connectivity solutions, contributing to the safety of vehicles travelling along the installation. Finally, the pavement surface with the appropriate preparation will offer high durability, without compromising on efficiency and inductive charging.
